AN AVRO Anson aircraft will perform a flypast at the 100th Arthington Show.

The event organisers have confirmed that the historic plane - built at the old Avro aircraft factory in Yeadon - will be making a special appearance on Sunday, July 2.

The flypast looks set to be one of the highlights of the centenary show, which takes place at Pool-in-Wharfedale and will, as always, feature a variety of display classes, horse-riding, main ring attractions and stalls.

There will also be racing Terriers, live opera music, a display of vintage tractors and stationary engines, driving classes, a gun dog scurry and a gymkhana.

A show spokeswoman said: "Work on the Anson began in 1933 and more than 2,750 of the aircraft were manufactured at Yeadon.

"The flypast will, therefore, be somewhat of a home coming for the Avro Anson aircraft which is a real part of our local history.

"A fun day out for all the family, this year's show is expected to be even bigger and better than normal to celebrate this special anniversary.

"As usual there will be a wide variety of stalls, trade stands, children's entertainment and displays in the show rings throughout the day.

"As well as competitions for livestock and horse and pony classes, there will be an opportunity to enter handicrafts, photography, baking and horticulture - the closing date for registering entries is June 23."

Full details and entry forms are available from the Arthington Show schedule which can be picked up from a number of local outlets including Otley Courthouse and Pool Post Office.

Details can also be downloaded from the artingtonshow.co.uk website or by contacting Show Secretary Lisa Hardy by sending an e-mail to admin@arthingtonshow.co.uk .

Ticket prices for this year's event cost £8 for adults or £4 for concessions and children under 16, with £20 family tickets also available.

Organised by Arthington, Bramhope, Pool and District Horticultural and Agricultural Society, the show takes place on fields just north of Pool Bridge.
