BEN Rhydding Community Fete takes place on Saturday and organisers are hoping for dry weather and a special guest appearance by the sun.

This year's event, the 12th since its start in 2006, will be held on the Valley Drive field, off Wheatley Lane, on June 17 from 2pm to 4pm.

Entry is free and there will be stalls, games, croquet competitions, bowls, a raffle and a bouncy castle, a full arena entertainment programme of singing, dancing and gymnastics, as well as tea and beer tents, a barbecue and plenty of ice cream.

Musical entertainment will be provided by The Fast Rattlers, who will, in their own words, be “storming through a fun and foot-tapping musical performance of 1950s skiffle and rock ‘n’ roll classics,” with renditions of songs by the likes of Lonnie Donegan, Chas McDevitt, Elvis Presley, Jerry Lee Lewis, and Chuck Berry.

Fete organiser Karen Palframan said: “We've grown over the years and the Fete seems as popular as ever. We just hope the sun shines and we'd also like to ask this year, that since parking is pretty tight in the area, people to try and walk to the fete instead of parking opposite the houses on Valley Drive near the field entrance.”

This year's event will also include the culmination of the second Ben Rhydding Scarecrow Festival along with a children’s scarecrow fancy dress competition. All the scarecrows from the Scarecrow Festival will be on show in the Scarecrow Garden where the winners of the best categories will be announced.
