AN ELECTION hustings will take place in Guiseley this weekend in an event organised by three local churches.
Residents will be able to meet the candidates at the event at Guiseley Baptist Church on Sunday, May 21 at 7.30pm. The evening will take the form of a question and answer session with five candidates whose names will be on ballot papers on June 8.
The candidates who have confirmed they will take part are Stuart Andrew of the Conservative Party, Bob Buxton, representing the Yorkshire Party, Ian McCargo, Labour Party candidate, Allan Nixon
of the Lib Dems and Michael Wharton, Independent.
Rev Mickey Munroe, Pastor of Guiseley Baptist Church said it was important for local people to have direct access to the candidates.
"Guiseley Baptist Church, St Oswald’s Church and Guiseley Methodist Church all play an important part in the life of this community and we want to give people an opportunity to get together and ask their parliamentary candidates directly about what really matters to them in the run up to the election," he said. "Everyone in the community is welcome, whether or not they belong to a church."
The event will be chaired by Rev Steve Allen, retired vicar and member of Guiseley Baptist Church. There is no admission charge, but numbers are limited to 150. For more information call the Guiseley Baptist Church office on 01943 884233.
