NEW lighting is being installed at Rawdon Community Library thanks to thousands of pounds funding from local councillors.

The library has been awarded £4,800 from Leeds City Council's Outer North West Community Committee's wellbeing fund.

The area's three ward councillors agreed the funding in December to replace the old lighting at the library, which was originally installed in the 1960s.Work is now expected to go ahead over the next two to three weeks.

The new LED lighting will produce a much brighter environment as well as saving money and lasting longer than the existing bulbs.

When the new lighting was approved Coun Paul Wadsworth said: "I’m pleased that we could agree funding for the library. The current lighting is old and not really fit for purpose, so the funding that we are providing will help the team to install new lighting which will ensure people can continue to use the library to the fullest extent."
