THE AWARD-WINNING film I,Daniel Blake is to be screened by Horsforth and Rawdon Labour Party.
The film, directed by the influential filmmaker Ken Loach, won the prestigious Palme D'or award at last year's Cannes Film Festival. It will be screened at Hall Park Cricket Club on Thursday, January 26, with the doors opening at 7.15pm.
The story centres around a man recovering from a heart attack and his dealings with the current benefits system and fitness for work assessments.
Gary McVeigh-Kaye, interim Secretary of the Horsforth and Rawdon Labour branch, said: "This film is a an eye-opening and shocking indictment of the treatment suffered by decent people caught up in rotten system. I, Daniel Blake highlights the lack of compassion shown towards people at their time of greatest need. People like Daniel Blake do not simply exist in the mind of a screenwriter, they live amongst us in our communities and that is why I would urge everyone to see this film and challenge the Government's contempt for those who are seeking a helping hand."
Tickets for the special showing cost £5.90 booked through https://www.eventbrite.co.uk/e/i-daniel-blake-film-showing-tickets-30228841278 or £5 on the door. There will be hot food and a bar available on the night.
