AN OTLEY student's inspirational work to raise awareness of cerebral palsy has earned her national recognition.

Chloe Tear was Highly Commended in the Most Inspirational Young Person category of this year's Kids Count Inspiration Awards.

The former Prince Henry's Grammar School student, now aged 18 and at university, was diagnosed with mild cerebral palsy aged seven.

Three years ago she started a blog, Life as a Cerebral Palsy Student, to document her experiences and offer advice to others in a similar position.

A Head Ambassador for the charity CP Teens UK, Chloe was nominated for the Kids Count award by her MP Greg Mulholland (Lib Dem, Leeds North West).

He said: "Congratulations to Chloe for the well-deserved recognition.

"I was pleased to welcome her to Parliament ahead of the awards ceremony this week, which she had come down for.

β€œIt was my pleasure to nominate Chloe after the inspiring work she has done to raise awareness of cerebral palsy.

"She should be rightly proud of being awarded Highly Commended in the Most Inspirational category.

"He blog reaches and inspires thousands of young people around the country.

"In one of her first blogs she wrote 'who knows what the future holds?'. I predict it holds even more great things for Chloe and I wish her every success.”

Chloe added: "I am amazed to receive this award, and having the opportunity to go down to London to be presented with it was such a great experience.

"I hope through doing this I am able to raise even more awareness of cerebral palsy and continue to write my blog while at university.

"The opportunities I have gained from doing this have been life-changing and I am so grateful for all the support I have received."
