A mother’s story about an “amazing” stranger with no family who bought a gift for her little girl in the supermarket has gone viral.

Abigail Crewe posted a picture on Faecbook of her, her baby and the man at Asda in Shipley, along with a description of his incredibly kind and heart-warming gesture.

She said the gentleman had made a fuss of her four-month-old-daughter and then offered to buy her a Disney toy. When Abigail declined, he insisted and explained that his late wife had loved Minnie Mouse, he had no family and just wanted to buy someone a Christmas present.

Bradford Telegraph and Argus:

Her public post reads: “Today I popped to asda at Shipley with my sister Jemma Crewe and my four month old daughter when this gentleman began to make a fuss over my daughter.

“We smiled and made polite conversation. We walked further down the Christmas gifts where he was stood and held out his hand with some money and pointed to the Disney teddies and insisted he bought one for her.

“I quickly denied this generous offer but he insisted and went on to tell us that he lost his wife 18 months prior and she loved micky mouse.

“He went onto say he has no family of his own and all he wanted to do was buy a Christmas gift for somebody. So we let him buy a Minnie mouse for her.... My heart is well and truly full of love today. This man made my day and it will be a Christmas story I will tell to my little girl every year when she asks what Christmas is all about. 💜 what an amazing man.”

The post has been ‘liked’ by more than 26,000 people, shared more than 4,000 times and attracted more than 1,700 comments since it was uploaded yesterday.

The T&A contacted Abigail for a comment, but were informed she had made an exclusive agreement with a news agency.

She did post a comment on our Facebook to say that she had been to visit the gentleman this morning at his home.

"It's gone viral. I went to his house this morning. Such a lovely man. We had a good chat and I gave him my number," she wrote.
