A BLAZING light in the sky has been seen over Guiseley.
The dramatic sight was captured on camera by Rachel Phillips and her husband George who spotted the strange light at about 6pm on Sunday.
The couple, who were with their children Poppy, ten, and Luke, seven, saw the object travelling across the sky as they were walking down Ings Crescent.
Rachel said: "We couldn't figure out what it was when we saw it. We were just standing there saying what on earth is it? My little boy thought it was a rocket.
"It was about the speed of a plane. It was really strange."
One theory is that the fireball could have been an part of an Orionid meteor shower which occurs as the earth passes through the dust released by Halley's Comet
Stargazers were expecting an impressive display across Britain over the weekend and into the week, and Rachel said this explanation was put forward when her husband posted footage on Facebook.
"I think there were supposed to be sightings of them this weekend," she said.
The Orionid Meteor Shower is one of two meteor showers created by debris from Halley's Comet - the other is the Eta Aquarids in May. The phenomenon is created when pieces of the comet disintegrate in the Earth’s upper atmosphere.
