A FOOTBALL club is supporting a campaign to help keep the elderly and the homeless warm this winter.

Guiseley AFC have joined forces with Subway at White Cross, to give the sandwich store's Gloves For Subs campaign a kick-start.

People are being asked to hand over a new pair of gloves and pay £1 at the Guiseley store on Tuesday, October 25. In return they will get a sandwich and a drink whilst helping needy people to keep a bit warmer.

Franchisee Ian Dawes said: “As Guiseley AFC play Gateshead on that day we are extending the time at the Guiseley branch from 11am to 7pm so that those going to the game can get involved with the campaign.

“We are very happy that the Guiseley players are supporting us in this with every player donating a pair of gloves and handing over their £1 as well as helping us to gain publicity for the project.”

Guiseley AFC manager Adam Lockwood said: “Gloves and subs are words that fit in with what we do in football and we are happy to lend our support to this worthy cause. The players will all be chipping in their money and pairs of gloves and we hope that all our supporters follow suit as well.

“As a club we get involved in many charitable events and fundraising locally and this is something we are happy to do.”
