SCHOOLBOYS are staging a fashion show this week to raise money for Horsforth's war memorial.

Eight actors who starred in the play The Pals, at Horsforth School, are hoping to raise £250 to honour local men who died in WW1.

The money will pay the stonemason's bill for fixing plaques to Horsforth Cenotaph. These will list the names of soldiers from Horsforth which were not included on the war memorial when it was first commissioned 95 years ago.

The actors, aged 15 and 16, visited First World War battlefields during a school trip this year.

One of them, Josh Wilkinson said: "We all enjoyed the play and the visit to France and Belgium so this is the last event in The Pals project. It’s our first time modelling clothes but it’s probably just like acting and we hope to have a bit of fun, not take ourselves too seriously and raise some money for a good cause."

Another of the teenagers, Joe Moss, said: "We’re quite nervous about it actually but in the spirit of The Pals we thought that we’d give it a go and that people will think it’s worth the £2 per person admission."

Fellow actor Ethan Wright added: "I’d never acted before that was a first and so’s this modelling but hopefully we’ll be well supported by the people of Horsforth. We’re excited to be modelling the quality clothes supplied by our sponsors Slaters, Accent and Kirkstall Outfit. So many thanks to them."

Among those attending the fashion show will be Susan Watson secretary of the Horsforth WW1 project.

She said: "We’re really grateful to the students of Horsforth School for their support of the War Memorial renewal project. Some of the lads are nervous about the fashion show but they’re willing to give it a go as part of their remembering the soldiers who left our town a century ago and who never returned. Let’s hope that they get a good turnout."

Organiser James Bovington who wrote and directed The Pals stressed: "I’m proud of the lads for doing this in memory of the Horsforth soldiers who gave their all and I want to thank our sponsors too. Let’s hope we raise the money needed to get those plaques fixed in memory of Horsforth’s soldiers. Please contact me at bovingjd01@horsforthschool.org with any questions."

The fashion show will take place at 7pm and 8pm on Wednesday, October 19 at Horsforth School.
