MENSTON residents are calling for action to tackle a 'sinkhole' near the Railway Station.

Villagers say the hollow on Station Road, at its junction with Cleasby Road, has been there for more than 12 weeks.

The hole, believed to be a collapsed sewer, is surrounded by traffic cones and marked off with a road sign.

No action has been taken so far to fix the road, however - and the issue was raised again at last week's meeting of Menston Community Association's Neighbourhood Forum.

Association Chairman Dr Steve Ellams said: "This hole appeared outside the railway station approximately 12 weeks ago after some heavy rain.

"There were no real answers (at the forum) except to say it appears it is the main sewer which has collapsed and the responsibility falls on Yorkshire Water."

A Yorkshire Water spokesman said: "We are not aware of any issues with our sewer network in Station Road, Menston.

"However, we will survey both sewers that run down the stretch of road past the railway station within the next two weeks to make sure there are no defects that need repair."

Bradford Council's ward officer for Menston, Paula Truman, told the neighbourhood forum that she would be chasing up the issue to ensure action was taken.
