'A LOT of lovely music' is being promised at this year's Poppy Appeal concert in Otley.

The event takes place at Prince Henry's Grammar School on Saturday, October 15 and will be led by the Band of the Royal Air Force Military College of Music.

Organiser Irene Willis, an Honorary Citizen of Otley and Skipton Royal British Legion branch member, has been arranging the fundraising shows for more than quarter of a century.

Last year's concert raised £3,000 for the Battle Back Centre, the British Legion's base that helps wounded, injured and sick service personnel.

Guiseley resident Mrs Willis, who was invited to 10 Downing Street last year in recognition of her fundraising, is hopeful of matching or even topping that amount this time.

She said: "It's the Queen's 90th year and I think we'll have a lot of lovely music played at the concert, including popular favourites like The Dam Busters March.

"It should be a really nice evening and once again we'll have special guests including some Chelsea Pensioners and Ghurkas, local MPs and councillors.

"The tickets are selling well but there are still some left."

Tickets cost £13 and can be booked by calling (01943) 872148 or (01943) 467199.
