PUPILS at Ashlands Primary School in Ilkley took part in the national fundraising Jeans for Genes day last Friday to help raise money for children living with genetic disorders in the UK.

The day holds extra significance for the Leeds Road school as one of their pupils, Evie Swales was born with a rare genetic disorder. The story of six-year-old Evie, from Ilkley and her diagnosis of a condition called Bardet-Biedl syndrome, which affects just one in 100,000 children, was used last week to highlight the importance of Jeans for Genes Day which helps raise desperately needed cash for the 500,000 British children living with a genetic disorder.

Pupils at Ashlands wore their jeans to school and raised £438.26. Headteacher Andrew Soutar said: "We are always looking to support charities and through this donation we can make a difference for other children and families."
