AS SOCIETIES and groups start their autumn term, members of the Ilkley & District U3A Art for Fun group have an extra spring in their step. The group, which meets together weekly, is mounting the first exhibition showcasing its work.

A selection of the members’ art will be on display at St Margaret’s Church Rooms, Queens Road, Ilkley, throughout October.

As with all U3A groups, the Art for Fun group members came together to have fun and enjoy a common interest. The group aims to create the right environment for sharing various ways of exploring art. During Art for Fun meetings members have used all sorts of media to create their art work - from oils, watercolours and acrylics to iPad drawing, silk painting and sketching. Subject matter varies as everyone does ‘his/her own thing’.

Many of the works of art on display are original and most are for sale. The group has issued an open invitation to come along to meet the artists over tea/coffee in St Margaret’s Church Rooms on Sunday, October 30 from 2.30pm to 4.30pm. If you would like to join the artists for tea contact Tony Dutton at todut@mypostoffice.co.uk (01943 600993) or Judith Sayer on sayer.judith@gmail.com (01943 601191).
