A WOMEN'S action group in Otley has been given a financial boost from a local supermarket.

Otley Women Together has received nearly £300 from Waitrose Otley's Community Matters shopper-driven token scheme.

The women's organisation was formed a year ago to organise a day of activities to mark International Women's Day at the Courthouse and Otley Labour Rooms.

Founders Gill Leggat and Hazel Costello said: "This funding is wonderful news and will act as a cushion for future activities."

The money will enable the group to cover room hire costs for future meetings and provide a start-up pot for an event they are planning for 2017.

Otley Women Together, meanwhile, are inviting people to attend their next event, a free talk on Menopause - Before, During and After, at the Courthouse on Wednesday, October 26.

Visitors will hear talks from healthcare professionals Dr Anne Connolly and physiotherapist Gill Brook, who will give short presentations and answer questions.

The talk begins at 7.30pm.
