HOW well can we ever know another person? That is the question asked in Ilkley Film Sciety's next screening, 45 Years, on Sunday, September 25 (Ilkley Playhouse, 8pm).

Veteran British stars Tom Courtenay and Charlotte Rampling, with over 100 years of film-making between them, play Geoff and Kate who are preparing a 45th wedding anniversary party. Kate has always known that, before he met her, Geoff had loved another woman who had died in a tragic accident when holidaying with him in the Swiss Alps. When Geoff receives a letter with the news that the body has reappeared in a melting glacier, cracks begin to appear in the seemingly perfect marriage as Kate is increasingly disturbed by his reactions.

Sensitive script and directing, both by Andrew Haigh, and superb, flawless performances by the two stars (winning 15 international awards, plus an Oscar nomination for Rampling) make this an unmissable film.

Membership for the new season is still available, and it is possible to join on the night. Non-members are requested to reserve tickets (£4) by phoning Dave Howell on 01943 430097.
