MP GREG Mulholland is encouraging residents in more rural areas to apply to a new Vodafone scheme aiming to improve mobile coverage in community hubs.

The Community Indoor Sure Signal (CISS) programme is designed to provide reliable indoor 3G voice and data coverage and will be open to 100 rural community hubs, such as pubs and shops, village halls, scout huts, doctors’ surgeries or visitor centres that do not currently have reliable mobile coverage.

Successful applicants (who must be the broadband bill payer) will need an unlimited broadband package with download speeds of at least 4Mbps and upload speeds of 2Mbps and a domestic plug-in power point. The CISS unit simply plugs into a standard fixed broadband router to provide mobile coverage throughout a building, hall or shop.

Deadline for applications is September 1 and more information is available at: http://tinyurl.com/VodafoneScheme

Greg said: “Many of us have been in a fantastic rural pub, village hall or community centre where unfortunately the mobile phone signal isn’t always strong.

“That’s why I welcome Vodafone’s scheme, which will greatly improve mobile coverage for up to 100 rural community hubs. If you know of anywhere that might benefit from this scheme, you should definitely encourage them to apply.”
