MENSTON schoolgirls are celebrating a double sporting success.

Girls from Year 6 triumphed in both the Wharfedale Schools’ astroturf Football League, in the winter, and then the local schools cricket league.

The pupils put their success down to commitment, teamwork and the contribution of Sports Leaders from Ilkley Grammar School - who organise, coach and referee competitions for primary school children each year.

Menston Primary pupil Cora Clements, who captained both winning teams, said "We were never defeated on our road to winning the football.

"This was a major confidence boost and helped us grow as a team to work to together.

"We were unsure whether we could win at cricket but we persevered and gave one hundred per cent effort in every game.

"One of the reasons we came through was because we knew the tactics of teamwork from football.

"Through our journey we have learnt that one hundred per cent commitment is key to forming a great team.

"This amazing achievement has made our year, it shows that when we work together our team can accomplish anything we want."
