AN AUTISM support group has won the backing of an Ilkley accountancy firm that is aiming to raise £2,000 for the charity.

Staff at Wintersgill Associates will be taking part in fundraising events and challenges in support of AWARE (Airedale and Wharfedale Autism Resource).

The practice is joining forces with the support group for a number of activities, including tackling the Yorkshire Three Peaks in September, to raise awareness around children and young adults on the autistic spectrum.

The company was inspired to support Ilkley Carnival beneficiary AWARE after hearing about its work in the local community and the support it gives to families affected by autism.

The team of business advisors will also be helping with craft activities at an Addingham support group for autistic children, siblings and friends during the summer.

Managing director, Paul Wintersgill, said they were thrilled to be working with the group, which already had close links with some of his team.

He added: "Together with AWARE, we can raise the sort of money that will help make a difference to families who are caring for children and young adults with autism in and around Ilkley.

"It’s a great way to immerse ourselves into the community and we hope other local businesses will support our efforts and get involved too."

The accountancy practice will continue to support AWARE throughout 2016 by hosting a fundraising event for local enterprises at Ilkley Cinema and taking part in team challenges.

The support organisation's project manager, Jo Galasso, said: "We were over the moon when Wintersgill Associates approached our group to see how they could help.

"AWARE truly is a lifeline to many parents and families in our area. The support we can provide for children and young adults on the autistic spectrum helps maximise their potential and gives them a kick-start towards adult life. With almost 300 members and 34 volunteers, the funds raised by Wintersgill Associates will help us continue our services as the group continues to grow.”
