A GROUP of children from Yeadon Westfield Junior School were invited to attend the Great Yorkshire Show in Harrogate on July 13 after taking part in a competition to plant a vegetable box and create a diary.
The group had worked hard to create the vegetable box at school and detailed their efforts in a diary, which explained to the judges how they had used compost from the school's own compost bin, planted an arch of willow, taken from a willow growing in the school grounds, and used brightly-coloured ribbons on it to deter birds.
Although the vegetable box did not make it to the final, the children were very excited when it was announced they had won second prize for their diary.
A special thanks went to Mary Jaciuch and Angela Hopps for all their hard work
