MORE than 1,000 people turned out to enjoy the sights and sounds of this year's Guiseley carnival.

Old and young alike enjoyed the colourful parade as it wound its way through the town's packed streets.

Schoolchildren wore eye-catching outfits complete with feathers, masks and flamboyant wigs, and the parade was joined by majorettes and the air cadets marching band.

The event started with a parade on Station Road and the fun continued in the Station pub car park, with entertainment and stalls.

"Well over a thousand people were involved, it was packed in places," said Julie Jacques, one of the volunteer helpers.

"All the money raised goes toward our annual coach trip for the Guiseley Senior Citizens Association.

"Next month we will be taking 230 people in six coaches to Lytham St Annes, so we're hoping to have raised some £1,500.

"This will be the 24th trip we've been able to run

She added: "It really was a lovely day, with all the local schools and organisations taking part. And we had the Air Cadets marching band and also majorettes."
