BRIGHT yellow bikes are being positioned around Otley ahead of its day hosting the Tour de Yorkshire.

Otley BID has teamed up with ECON to have eight bicycles specially coloured and positioned in prominent positions around town for Saturday's showpiece event.

The Ripon-based company agreed to powder-coat the bikes – which are a nod to the yellow bicycles that sprang up during the 2014 Tour de France Grand Depart, the route for which also went through Otley – free of charge for the event.

Peter Mudge, of Otley BID, said: "We would like to thank ECON for letting us take up valuable time in its paint shop, and also the local police, Craig Mason of Greenholme Carpets & Flooring, and Peter Heald of Otley BID for sorting out the collection and delivery of the bikes.

"This is a great example of businesses throughout the region coming together to celebrate tourism within Yorkshire and the Tour."

ECON joint managing director, Andrew Linton, said: "We were delighted to work with the Otley BID team to bring these attractive cycling symbols to the town of Otley.

"We hope residents and visitors to the town enjoy them for years to come."

The bikes' locations will include the Pool Road and Leeds Road entrances to the town, Otley Courthouse, Stephen H Smith's Garden Centre and Lunds Carpets in Westgate.

One will also be based at the temporary Otley Information Office for the Tour, which will be set up on Saturday in the former Motor World shop on the corner of Market Place and Manor Square.
