YOUNGSTERS at Guiseley Primary School celebrated the Queen's birthday by learning about her life over the past 90 years.

Pupils used their History Week to look at the monarch's early life and her long reign - with each year group focussing on a different aspect, such as her youth, her education, the war effort, the royal wedding, the coronation, jubilees and her role.

The week culminated with a 90th birthday street party for the whole school where the children shared their work and learning with each other. Pupils have also sent a letter to Buckingham Palace to tell The Queen how they celebrated her special day.

Teacher Stephenie Knight said: "This is the first time we have held a History Week in school. Celebrating the 90th birthday of Queen Elizabeth II gave the children a fantastic topic to study. The children have worked very hard and thoroughly enjoyed learning about the different aspects of The Queen's life. The whole school History display looks amazing, the children and staff are very proud of their hard work and achievements and are hoping they get a reply to their letter they sent to The Queen."
