VOLUNTEERS cleared away an "astounding" amount of rubbish when they set to work at Bayton Lane in Yeadon.
Otley and Yeadon councillor, Sandy Lay, joined Litter Free Guiseley volunteers and Leeds City Council cleansing teams on Sunday to spruce up the road.
The council closed Bayton Lane for litter picking, sweeping and gulley clearing.
Cllr Lay, who tweeted about the "astounding" volume of rubbish collected on the day, said: "I think what I find most shocking is just how much rubbish is thrown away.
"If we didn't throw rubbish away, we wouldn't have to close roads, we'd save thousands of pounds and we would have more civic pride.
"I'd like to thank Litter Free Guiseley volunteers for organising and getting everyone together."
