FILM fans can enjoy some fish and chips with their movie at Otley Courthouse next month.

Fish 'n’ Reels – Otley Film Society’s annual screening of a classic film followed by a fish and chip supper or vegetarian option – takes place on April 2.

This year's event, held in collaboration with Otley Action for Older People, will feature the classic 1948 American musical Easter Parade, starring Judy Garland, Fred Astaire and Peter Lawford.

The film, with music by Irving Berlin, won the 1948 Academy Award for Best Original Music Score and includes some of Astaire and Garland’s best-known songs, such as Stepping Out With My Baby and We’re A Couple Of Swells.

The screening takes place at 3pm and tickets cost £3 for the movie or £6 for both the film and food.

Before that, the Courthouse will hold its first Otley Science Cafe of 2016 on March 24.

The three quick-fire presentations will include a talk by Professor Paul Wignall, from the School of Earth and Environment at the University of Leeds, on the Age of Extinctions.

Richard Ashworth, from the Society of Dyers and Colourists in Bradford, will also give a talk on The Fat Chemist and the Fuzzy Painter, while Dr Thea Pitman, from the School of Languages, Cultures and Societies at the University of Leeds, will discuss Aztec High-tech.

Each speaker will set out their key ideas in a ten to 15-minute slide presentation, and then take part in a question-and-answer session with the audience.

Open to all, the Science Cafe starts at 7.30pm and tickets cost £5.

Admission is free for 18 year olds and under, but they still need to secure a ticket by either dropping in at the Courthouse, visiting otleycourthouse.org.uk, or calling 01943 467466.
