BOSSES should do more to help their workers who are also carers, says Shipley MP Philip Davies.

He took along representatives from local charity Carers Resource when he met Employment Minister Priti Patel in Westminster to see what government could do to help.

Mr Davies, whose constituency includes Menston and Burley-in-Wharfedale, spoke about the issue in the House of Commons.

He said: “More and more people particularly women are taking on caring responsibilities and it is important that more employers have more carer friendly employment practices.

“We need to do more to encourage that to happen in order to get the best out of those people.”

Employment Minister Ms Patel said she would work with Mr Davies and his constituency based organisation to see how “we can pilot more initiatives locally”.

She added: “Mr Davies is absolutely right, and it was a great pleasure to meet them and importantly discuss how we can support and work collectively with them to support women with caring responsibility to get employment but also to work with employers to do more to support getting people into work, carers in particular.”
