TWO players from Ben Rhydding Hockey Club have been picked to represent England in its over-60s hockey team.

Mary Pawson, 62, of Burley-in-Wharfedale, and Anne Rawlinson, 61, of Sutton-in-Craven, have been called up to England women's over-60s squad to play in the FIH Masters World Cup, which will be held in Canberra, Australia, starting on March 29, 2016.

More than 70 international Masters hockey teams from around the globe will descend on the National Hockey Centre in Lyneham, a suburb of Canberra, for the 12-day event.

"It's an honour to represent your country no matter what age you are," said Anne, who will play goalkeeper in the squad of 16.

"My family and friends are bit proud and a bit shocked at the same time. First of all, they can't believe I still play hockey, but I can say that I'll be wearing my own Three Lions kit."

Anne will be joined by her friend, Mary, who is a midfielder and striker.

"We both started playing hockey at the age of 12 and I've been at Ben Rhydding for about 20 years, which is where I met Mary," added Anne. "We've been picked internationally by England a lot of times, ever since they formed a new over-60s team for the World Cup in Rotterdam, Holland, in 2014."
