OTLEY'S annual Poppy Appeal concert has raised £3,000 for the Royal British Legion.

The 2015 event was held at Prince Henry's Grammar School on October 17, and featured a performance by the Band of the Royal Air Force College.

It was organised as always by veteran fundraiser Irene Willis, a longstanding member of the Legion's Skipton branch and an Honorary Citizen of Otley.

She said: "The concert was a great success and we've raised £1,000 more than last year.

"The money will go the Legion's Battle Back Centre, which since opening in 2011 has helped more than 2,000 wounded, injured and sick service men and women with their rehabilitation."

This year's event coincided with the 70th anniversary of VJ Day, and included readings from the Skipton branch's Vice President, Barry Blood, and a Legion pastor.

Among the special guests were Otley Mayor Councillor Philip Bye (Lib Dem, Prince Henry's) and his wife, Susan, MP Stuart Andrew (Con, Pudsey), and Councillor Paul Wadsworth (Con, Guiseley & Rawdon).

Two Chelsea Pensioners, Denis Shiels and David Jackson, also attended as guests of honour.
