TICKETS to a fashion show being held to raise money for Bradford's Marie Curie Hospice have sold out weeks in advance, much to the delight of organisers.

The event, sponsored by Attic Womenswear, takes place at The Craiglands Hotel on October 16, from 6.30pm to midnight. The 205 guests will enjoy a glass of bubbly on arrival followed by a two course meal.

The fashion show by Attic Womenswear – an independent boutique based in Crescent Courtyard in Ilkley – will be followed by entertainment from soul singer Janet Jaye, as well as a shopping evening with 45 vendors and dancing until late.

It is the second year the event has taken place, organised by Vicki Burton, 39, of Guiseley. She is raising money for Marie Curie in memory of her mother, Maggie Gilbert, who died in December 2012 aged 67.

Grandmother-of-seven Mrs Gilbert, who was well known in Ilkley where she taught aerobics for 30 years, was treated at Marie Curie's Maudsley Street hospice for the last six weeks of her life. Vicki hopes to repay the cost of her mum's care and has already raised a total of £12,000. She hopes to surpass the £16,000 mark after the show.

Vicki said: "I am blown away by the response we have had to this year's event – knowing the hard work and commitment of those involved in hosting an event like this will be rewarded by raising money for the Bradford Marie Curie is a fantastic feeling and I'm looking forward to making this a 'must-go-to-event' in everyone's diary for the future.

“What this hospice does is nothing short of inspiring. They are amazing. The care we got for my mum was brilliant. They look after everybody. They are all so caring and considerate. These people are worth every penny that can be raised for them."

She added: "Even though the fashion show is a sell out, table sponsors are still needed, as are auction prizes."

Vicki will follow the fashion show by taking part in a fundraising trek to Sri Lanka from November 6 to 15, along with 23 other Marie Curie fundraisers.

She added: "I am excited about the trek. I'm really looking forward not only to the challenge, but also to having an amazing experience in memory of my mum.
