POP-UP art venues are about to appear all over Ilkley when the art trail takes over the town from October 7 to 11.

A total of 24 venues in Ilkley and Ben Rhydding – including artists’ studios, homes and other spaces not usually open to the public – will become temporary showcases for 45 gifted local artists. Entry to all venues is free.

From oil paintings, prints and etchings to ceramics and jewellery, the trail will be a chance for art lovers to talk with professionals about their inspiration, techniques and masterpieces.

Among the venues will be Ilkley Town Hall, where ten artists will be displaying their works in the council chamber and the old planning office – rooms usually off-limits to the public.

Organiser, Sarah Thomas, said: “I can’t wait for the show to start.

"There are so many talented artists here and Ilkley businesses and the parish council have all been really supportive. I am thrilled the council is allowing us open up the town hall this year, and I am sure many people in the town will want to see how the council chamber works as an art gallery.”

There will also be a mini trail within the art trail, as 3D conceptual artist Kathryn Fox’s ‘Hide and Seek’ installation will be located in nine town shops and businesses.

Each of her pieces will have a link to the venue they are located. More details of this will be on Facebook and Twitter.

Art students from Ilkley Grammar School will also be taking part in the trail with 2015 A Level projects on display at Harrison Robinson Estate Agents in Bolling Road.

On the first day of the event, Simon King will be projecting art onto the Cow and Calf Rocks from 7pm to 8pm. All who attend will be able to pick up a voucher for food and drink discounts on the night at the Cow and Calf Inn.

The trail will close with a special projection event called ‘Talking Stone’ by artist Filippa Dobson at the Badger Stone on Ilkley Moor, from 5.30pm to 7pm on October 11.

"Talking Stone is a projection mapping of the ‘Badger Stone’ on Ilkley Moor, signifying the moment that the stone might ‘speak’ and revealing the mystery of the cup and ring marks in a language of colour," said Filippa.

Numbers will be limited. E-mail sdfjd@leeds.ac.uk to book a place.

Trail founder and director, Lorna Bird, said: "This year's trail looks fantastic, and I am delighted we have been able to include two outdoor events and link with Ilkley Grammar School, as well as great art from 45 artists."

Programmes and flyers can be picked up at Ilkley Visitor Information Centre, as well as at shops, cafes and pubs in town.
