MORE than £1,800 has been raised for the Alzheimer's Society by a man who is cycling from Land's End to John O'Groats.

Nick Howdle, the project manager behind the rebuilding of the new Airedale factory in Rawdon, is undertaking the 970-mile cycle ride during ten days. He is expected to arrive back in Yorkshire tomorrow.

He has raised £1,842 so far and is appealing for donations at https://www.justgiving.com/nickhowdle/https://www.justgiving.com/nickhowdle/ to boost charity coffers.

Nick, 40, who works for BAM Construct, is leading the team building a state-of-the-art new premises to replace the Airedale factory, which was destroyed in a blaze in 2013.

He is riding solo to raise money for the Alzheimer’s Society, which is BAM’s national charity partner.

A BAM spokesman said: "We’re always humbled by the energy and effort of our people in devoting their own time to help charities like Alzheimer’s. Cycling is a good means of doing this because it’s healthy if you’re fit enough to do it safely, like Nick is. But we do get through our share of cakes in support of good causes, too!"
