CHINESE language students have been enjoying the sights of Yorkshire during a trip to Otley.

Sixteen Xuejun High School pupils were in the town last week to visit Prince Henry's Grammar School students who had travelled in the other direction last October.

During their stay the visitors attended the school and were shown around the local area by their exchange partners and families and were received by the Lord Mayor of Leeds, Councillor Judith Chapman (Lib Dem, Weetwood).

They also enjoyed trips to York Minster and Castle Museum, Howarth and the Bronte Parsonage Museum, the National Coal Mining Museum, and West Yorkshire Sculpture Park.

Assistant Headteacher, Learning Community, and trip organiser at Prince Henry's, Christopher Lillington, said: "These exchanges are very beneficial to the students, both at Prince Henry’s and our partner schools.

"The opportunity to really immerse yourself in the culture and language of a country is invaluable.

"We have been running this exchange visit with Xuejun High School since the year 2000 - since when many of our students have gone on to study Chinese at university and to use the language in their working life."

All Prince Henry’s students study Chinese in Year 8, alongside either French or Spanish and German, and take at least one language at GCSE level.
