WHARFEDALE and Aireborough charities have been given a cash boost thanks to local Sainsbury's stores.

Staff at the company's Otley and Yeadon supermarkets have been raising money for Otley Lions and Yeadon-based Safe Haven and Epilepsy Action.

The Lions, the Otley store's charity of the year, have been presented with £5,416 while cheques for £1,147 and £756 have been presented to Epilepsy Action and Safe Haven, respectively.

The money was handed over in Otley last Friday, July 3, when representatives from the three charities attended along with Otley Sainsbury's manager Ben Donnachie and Anil Patel, who runs the Yeadon branch.

Harvinder Chaggar, from Epilepsy Action, said: "We are always delighted to receive donations and this one is particularly special because it has been raised by the people who live and work near our head office.

"Our fundraisers are very important to us as more than 95 per cent of our life-changing work is funded by donations.

"Every penny of this donation will go towards supporting people affected by epilepsy in the UK - there are nearly 22,000 in West Yorkshire alone.

"We would like to thank all the staff and customers of these Sainsbury's stores for their generosity and support."

The other groups expressed their thanks for the support.
