VILLAGERS are being urged to get their scarecrows ready for the Burley Summer Festival, as plans for the event next month move into their final stages.

Festival brochures are due to be delivered free to all residents of the village over the next week or two.

Brochures will also be available from libraries in Wharfedale and the full programme of events and details for booking can be found on the Festival website.

Postal and online booking begins on Monday July 20, and the festival itself runs from August 22 to 30.

But with little over a month to go before the start, organisers say it is now time for villagers to get those Scarecrows made.

The popular Scarecrow trail and competition is again open to all Burley residents, businesses and village organisations.

Prizes will be awarded in each category, and there will also be a prize draw for those entering the public judging trail.

Judging will go on through the week and will be carried out by the participating public. Scarecrow entries will be based on this year’s theme of ‘Around The World in 80 Scarecrows’.

Scarecrow entry forms can be downloaded from the Festival website, burleysummerfestival.org, or collected from Burley Library, the Red Lion, Burley Social Club (Rifle Club) or the Generous Pioneer.

Scarecrows must be out on display by 11am on Friday August 21.

There is no cost for entering a Scarecrow or two, but there is a small £1 charge for the Scarecrow Trail judging forms.

These forms are available during Festival Week from the Roundhouse in Grange Park or from the Red Lion Public House on Main Street, Burley-in-Wharefeldale. E-mail Jan.lepley@sky.com for further details.
