THE Mad March hare was spotted up at Westville House School causing much merriment as he raced against all the children over a series of laps of a cross country course around the grounds and sports field at the Ilkley school.
Christian Adamthwaite, the deputy headteacher, running as the Mad March Hare, had trained hard in the hope that the children would not be able to keep up.
The Mad March Hare race is set to become an annual event and was raising money for Comic Relief and to purchase a defibrillator for the school.
All the children had raised money through sponsorship and were so excited. Even the youngest children managed to run over two miles, while the older children managed over five miles.
Mr Adamthwaite said: “I am so proud of the efforts of all of the children – for running so well, raising lots of money for charity and entering into the event in true Westville spirit.”
