A CASH donation by councillors means special cafes for people with dementia will be able to continue.

Otley Action for Older People has been running its Memory Lane Cafe sessions, to provide support and entertainment for those living with memory problems, since 2011.

But the charity’s council funding is due to run out, so it asked the town’s ward councillors if they could help. Cllrs Sandy Lay and Ryk Downes responded by offering £400 of their MICE (Members Improvements in the Community) funds to keep the sessions running until Christmas.

Cllr Downes said: “The Memory Lane Cafés have become an important fixture in the lives of many older residents in the area.

Cllr Lay added: “We all need company and advice from time to time, and to know that others are facing the same problems as we are.

“These meetings are so important and we are pleased to assure their financial future until the end of the year.”
