A YEADON school has won an award for its healthy eating and environment-friendly food ethos.
Yeadon Westfield Infant School has been given the Food for Life Partnership Bronze award for its work in transforming its own food culture and that of its local community.
As part of the scheme, the school serves more than 180 seasonal school meals a day – three-quarters of which are freshly prepared by cook, Beverley Elsworth.
The school gives every pupil the chance to visit a farm, to help grow food and to cook. Pupils and parents are also involved in monitoring the school’s menu.
The school will be holding a Food for Life celebration week beginning on Monday, March 2. It will also hold its own Westfield Street Market between 3pm and 4pm on Tuesday, March 3.
School business manager Elizabeth Middleton said: “We are extremely proud of our whole school team who have helped the school achieve its Bronze Food for Life Award, we have learned a great deal from taking part and are striving to achieve the Silver Award next.”
