COUNCIL house tenants in Wharfedale and Aireborough could be ‘penalised’ under new funding arrangements.

That is the warning being made by Councillor Barry Anderson (Con, Adel & Wharfedale) over changes to the budgets for local Housing Advisory Panels.

Outer North West - Otley & Yeadon, Horsforth, Adel & Wharfedale and Guiseley & Rawdon - is to have its funding for local improvement projects cut from £120,000 per year to £104,701 The change is the result of a new formula, approved by Leeds City Council’s Housing Advisory Board, which allocates more funding to areas with higher numbers of council properties.

It will impact the Outer North East area, whose wards include Harewood, even more severely - with funding there set to fall to £89,893.

Coun Anderson said: “I think it’s a shame that the council has decided to reduce the funding going to the Outer North West and Outer North East panels.

“It would appear that some council tenants are going to be penalised because they live in areas where there has been a high level of Right to Buy, less money is going to be spent in their area.”
