THE number of registered voters in the Ilkley and Craven wards of Bradford Council has fallen since last year, according to a prospective parliamentary candidate.

Labour’s Prospective Parliamentary Candidate for Ilkley, John Grogan, has released figures which show that there are 2,700 fewer voters registered the constituency than last year.

The number of voters in Ilkley has dropped by 242 to 11,654, and by 384 in the Craven ward from 13,053 to 12,669.

“The fact that around four per cent of all Keighley Constituency’s voters have vanished from the register is a real worry for our democracy,” said Mr Grogan. “It seems likely that many of the missing voters are young people whose parents would have registered them under the previous system.”

He added: “Whatever a person’s political views I would urge them to encourage their friends and families to register which can easily be done online or by contacting Bradford Council.”
