A FORMER Major in the parachute regiment came to Horsforth to help a prospective Labour candidate fight for a seat in Parliament.

Barnsley Central MP, Shadow Minister for Justice and war veteran, Dan Jarvis, joined Jamie Hanley in Horsforth to help him in his campaign. Mr Jarvis, formally a company commander in the Special Forces Support Group, entered Parliament in 2011 when he became the first person since World War Two to resign his commission in order to contest a parliamentary by-election.

Mr Jarvis said: “Jamie Hanley is a man dedicated to fighting for the rights and welfare of the people who he has lived alongside for nearly all of his life.”

Mr Hanley added: “Dan is a man with great strength of character who has served our country in the armed forces and now in parliament.”
