A CHILDREN’S charity is appealing to readers to offer emergency accommodation for vulnerable young people over the Christmas period.
Barnardo’s Futures service in Leeds is asking those with a spare bedroom and an interest in making a difference in a young person’s life to come forward.
Futures supports vulnerable young people, mostly those leaving care, who have been homeless or are at risk of homelessness by offering a short term, place to stay after family breakdown or crisis.
Manager, Jane Smith, said: “Many of us who have loving families take for granted the fact we have somewhere safe and warm to stay over Christmas. But vulnerable young people who do not have the support of a loving family run the risk of sleeping rough on the streets. “We need people who are patient, have a sense of humour and have an understanding of young people and their needs.”
A weekly fee of around £150 is paid and training and support are given. For details ring 0113 2580888.
