TWO Yeadon schoolchildren are among the winners of an annual charity competition.

Amelia Barber and Charlot Pearson, both aged nine and both pupils at Yeadon Westfield Junior School, will have their work featured in the Walker Morris calendar, which raises money each year for Martin House Children’s Hospice.

The winners and runners-up attended a presentation ceremony at the Tetley Gallery in Leeds where an exhibition was taking place of 260 paintings from across the 20 years of the competition.

This year’s winning and runner-up paintings were on display as part of the exhibition, which finished on November 16.

The 13 winners, one for each month of the year plus the front page, were all presented with a hamper full of artists’ materials, plus a cheque for their schools for £250. Prizes went to the 34 runners-up, including Evie Bateson and James Wray, both nine, who are pupils are Yeadon Westfield.

All the proceeds from the sale of the calendar go to Martin House Children’s Hospice, which cares for children and young people with progressive life-limiting illnesses, and provides support to their families.

This year, as part of the 20th anniversary celebration, an auction book was launched to allow the public to buy paintings, with the proceeds going to Martin House.

Calendars are on sale for £5, and can be bought by sending an email to emily.gouldthorpe@walkermorris.co.uk or call 0113 283 2500.
