HISTORIC secrets of Wharfedale, Aireborough and Horsforth will be revealed as heritage buildings all over England open their doors next month.

Local treasures will be on show to members of the public as part of the Heritage Open Days 2014 weekend, alongside medieval guildhalls and, Georgian courthouses and other historic buildings across the region.

This year, the national Heritage Open Days scheme is celebrating its 20th anniversary, and special celebrations are taking place ahead of the weekend itself.

Visitors can log on to heritageopendays.org.uk/news to enter the Cake Bake or Selfie Challenge, or plan their weekend by choosing from guided tours, family-friendly themed events, fairs and festivals.

More than 400 free events are taking place around Yorkshire from Thursday September 11 to Sunday September 14.

A tour of Ilkley Town Hall complex will be held on September 12, staring 10.30am. Places on the 30 minutes tour must be booked by calling (01943) 601561 or e-mailing jcockshott@uwclub.net.

A guided walk of Guiseley's historic village centre will take place the same day, starting at The Wells, Springfield Road, at 10.30am. To book contact Jeff Halden on (01943) 876713.

Heritage enthusiasts are invited to visit All Saints' Parish Church in Otley on between 10am and 4.30pm on September 12 and 13, and from 11.30am to 4.30pm on September 14.

A timeline display, photographs and memories of the Chevin Forest Park will be on display at The White House, Johnny Lane, Otley, between 9am and 3pm from September 12-14.

The Victorian police house, cell block and magistrates' courts at Otley Courthouse - converted in 2004 to an arts and resource centre - will be on show between 10am and 4pm on September 13.

There will be Victorian games for children aged six to 12, but the event is not suitable for under-6s.

There will be a maximum limit of six people her tour or session.

On the Friday and Saturday, artefacts and other research material will be on display at Otley Museum Documentary Archive, Wellcroft House, Crow Lane, to tell the untold Otley stories of the First World War.

Farfield Friends Meeting House, a 17th Century Quaker meeting house, Bolton Road, Addingham will be open from 1pm to 4pm on September 13, with volunteer guides on site.

Meanwhile, Rawdon Quaker Meeting House Quakers Lane, Rawdon, will be open between 1pm and 5pm the same day.

High Royds Memorial Chapel and Garden, Buckle Lane, Menston, will be open on September 13 and 14, from 11am to 1pm and from 2pm to 4pm on both days, with a thanksgiving service at 4pm on the Sunday.
