A NEW permanent outdoor tennis table will be officially unveiled in Ilkley's Riverside Gardens this weekend.

Saturday (August 9) will see the launch of the public table tennis table on the paved walkway between the Riverside Hotel and The Old Bridge.

The facility is an initiative of Ilkley Soroptim,ists in the spirit of increasing access to sport for all.

The purchase of the table has been funded by the Landfill Agency Yorventure with funds generated by Yorwaste Ltd. Bradford Council staff have overseen the installation of the table and will also oversee its maintenance.

Dr Sue Butler, President of Ilkley Soroptimists invites new and experienced players to try outdoor table tennis as a family activity when visiting the riverside.

On Saturday morning, between 10.30am and 12.30am, there will be free use of bats and balls and people to show everyone how to play.

At other times, everyone is free to bring their own equipment or, bats can be hired for a £5 (refundable deposit) for two bats from the kiosk at The Riverside Hotel.

Balls cost 50p also from the kiosk.
