ILKLEY Grammar School GCSE language students enjoyed fantastic success in a languages’ virtual quiz based around the different stages of the Tour de France.

York University organised the Tour de France quiz which included a batch of questions and activities released once a week for eight weeks.

The quiz began on Tuesday, April 22 and ended on Friday, June 20. There were eight weekly rounds, focusing on the Yorkshire, Lille, Nancy, Mulhouse, Grenoble, Pau/Lourdes, Nimes/Carcassonne and Paris/Ile de France étapes respectively. Teams from all over the country were invited to compete.

Ilkley Grammar School’s team, ‘Les Roulers Fous’ comprised of Year 10 students: Nathan Spiller, Catherine Boyle, Milly Horn, Ethan Thompson, Sarah Yorke and Laura King. They all attended a prize giving ceremony at York University on Thursday, July 3rd where they were awarded the overall team prize and Laura King won the individual poster prize.

IGS head teacher Gillian James, was very impressed with their linguistic talents. She said: "They did fantastically well, to keep up the momentum over the eight weeks of the competition, and finish so strongly. They’re our languages’ versions of Chris Froome!"
