A WHARFEDALE village has unveiled its very own Eiffel Tower as the landmark visit of the Tour de France approaches.

When Yorkshire won the right to stage the start of the Tour de France, Burley-in-Wharfedale residents Charles and Fiona Prest knew they had to do something to mark the fact that the race would soon be passing a few metres from their front door.

Now, some six weeks after enrolling the help of the local scouts and guides, they have unveiled a 7.5-metre high model of the Eiffel Tower in their garden.

The Burley Eiffel Tower was formally opened on Monday by local rider Scott Thwaites, part of the NetApp Endura team.

A fellow Burley resident, Mr Thwaites had been striving to figure in "Yorkshire's Tour" ever since the county clinched the right to host the Grand Depart.

He raised a flag over the wooden structure which will dominate Burley Main Street this week leading up to the tour and the week after.
