SEVEN Tour-de-France focused community projects in Otley are in with a chance of receiving up to £5,000.

The proposals, which range from installing a public bicycle pump in the town centre to creating a film entitled The Day Le Tour de France Came To Otley, have been shortlisted for this year's Voice Your Choice award.

Run by the Town Council, the annual competition seeks suggestions from the community and then gets the public to vote to decide on the final winner or winners.

The council has put aside £5,000 this time to back local Tour de France legacy projects - and voting has now begun.

The public ballot runs until noon on Monday, June 9 and votes can be cast at the following venues: Otley Core Resource Centre; Otley Library; Otley Courthouse; Otley Action for Older People Office; All Saints Primary School; Ashfield Primary School; St Joseph’s Primary School; Westgate Primary School; The Whartons Primary School; Prince Henry’s Grammar School; Asda; Sainsbury’s, and Waitrose.

Votes, which must score each project in order of preference - with seven points going to the first choice and one to the least favourite - can also be cast online at: www.surveymonkey.com/s/voiceyourchoice2014 .

The voting website contains photographs and brief descriptions of each of the shortlisted ideas, which also include: the introduction of cycle specific road signs; the creation of a bicycle shaped new dry stone 'gateway' to the town; a stone sculpture depicting the race's peleton; the installation of a high profile, specially designed yellow cycling stand; the planting of a new avenue of trees along Pool Road.
