Despite torrential rain, more than 60 people turned out to attend the launch of Get Up & Go, Ilkley’s new fitness boot camp.

Ilkley residents proved their enthusiasm whatever the weather, with the first clients registering for Get Up & Go at 8.15am at its base at Ilkley Rugby Football Club.

Parents and other adults were put through their paces with a cardio workout followed by a tough conditioning session taken by Daniel Scarbrough, former England rugby full-back, and Alastair Monks, a player in the recently promoted Ilkley 1st XV.

The children’s’ boot camp was full of enthusiastic youngsters from five upwards, all enjoying relays, assault courses and ‘old school’ games.

Each month Get Up & Go will offer a fitness test so that participants will be able to monitor their progress and see the benefits of regular exercise, with training programmes matched to individual levels of fitness and advice regarding training techniques and nutrition available for free.

Co-founder Tanya Lindop said: “Saturday was just amazing.

“Thank you to all who braved the weather and came to support our launch. It was better than we dared hope for.
