Young and old turned out to walk or run a mile at Bramhope in aid of Sport Relief.

Almost 40 people raised a total of £700 in the “Walk, Jog or Run a Mile” event at the village cricket fields.

The fundraiser, which was held for the third year running, was organised by Tariq Qadeer, who runs the village newsagents. Water was donated by Costco Cash & Carry, Leeds.  Tariq said: “It was a good turnout and we had nearly 40 people who took part. Everyone from the village loved the run.

“There were some very young participants in pushchairs and there were some who were pushing their parents and grand-parents.

“I was very pleased that the hard work over the last few weeks had paid off with people of the village coming together and having fun and helping our good cause at the same time.  “Next we are organising Team Bramhope to take part in the Leeds Half Marathon on May 11.

“We would be raising funds for the Candlelighters and a cancer hospital in Pakistan.

“And in August, we are planning to do the Yorkshire Three Peaks challenge for the second year running, as everyone who did this walk last year loved it and wants to do it again.”
