Funding has been approved to extend a Cold Calling Control Zone to include Pool-in-Wharfedale.

The £2,000 will pay for letters to residents, advice booklets and trader warning stickers for householders to display in their windows.

The money from the Outer North West Area Committee will also allow the scheme, which is already running in other parts of the Adel and Wharfedale ward, to extend to other areas including Cookridge.

Councillor Barry Anderson (Con, Adel & Wharfedale) said: “I have been working with local volunteers, the police and West Yorkshire Joint Services to deliver the first phase of the project and it has been very successful and popular with local residents.

“This has had the effect that residents in other parts of the ward would now like to benefit from it.

“As we did with the first phase, this will done on a rolling programme.

“I am delighted that we have secured the additional funding required to extend the benefits of this scheme.”

Cold Calling Control Zones have been running in many parts of Otley – thanks to the town’s Neighbourhood Watch group – for two years and have been hailed a success by the police.
